Nope, this is incorrect because the #repealthe8th movement has been proven to be a foreign funded lobby, which has brought in thousands of dollars for the sole purpose of removing the 8th Amendment to the Irish Constitution.

This fact is well documented by the Irish media which has even, with its own pro-choice bias, found it difficult to ignore the millions of dollars that are flowing into Ireland to groups campaigning to repeal the 8th Amendment to the Irish Constitution.
The fact that outside pro-abortion bodies are talking about funding and coordinating groups in Ireland to dismantle the constitutional protection for the unborn child represents a gross interference and is an attack on democracy. The public will be deprived of a fair abortion debate if this kind of meddling continues from well-funded, outside, pro-choice bodies. This is internationalist subversion on behalf of foreign interests seeking to undermine Ireland’s sovereignty.
The localised fundraising campaigns should be seen for what they are, a cover story to create the impression that the Repeal the 8th Campaign in Ireland is a grassroots movement.
Who Funds the Repeal the 8th Movement?
Well it certainly is not solely the Irish repeal the 8th campaigners.
It has been proven that many non-Irish donors have played a major role in the repeal movement’s funding. Perhaps one of the biggest donors is the American billionaire George Soros through his Open Society Foundation.
“The document titled ‘Open Society Justice Initiative Proposed 2014 Strategy’ was part of the huge cache of leaked documents released by DC Leaks from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.”1 What was found in these leaked documents was that Open Society Foundation was funding at least three of the organisations which fund the Repeal the 8th Campaign.
“After they were exposed, the three pro-abortion organisations confirmed to the Irish Independent they had received grants from the foundation.” The organisations are:
- Amnesty International Ireland $150,000.
- Irish Family Planning Association $150,000.
- Abortion Rights Campaign $24,999.
A link to the complete leaked document is here, and here is a link to the part of the document exposing Open Society Foundation of funding the Repeal the 8th Campaign. If you want to know what the Irish authorities did about these illegal funds, read the full article here.
If one illegal donor were not enough, a second makes it all the more ironical that the Repeal the 8th Campaign states they are a grassroots movement.
Atlantic Philanthropies is an organisation which sends money to Irish organisations which campaign for repealing the 8th Amendment.
And who you might ask is the Irish “charity” that receives Atlantic’s money? The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL).

“ICCL is a political lobbying group and through its well-staffed offices at 9-13 Blackhall Place, Dublin 7, is now the major player in the abortion debate. Any basic examination of their website, their twitter feed etc. will show that it predominately engages in political lobbying on a multiplicity of issues. For that reason therefore it does not have a charity number and is not entitled to obtain one. It is not entirely clear who in fact gives the totality of the money it receives, but it is clear that the company has received millions of dollars from US-based foundations and in particular Atlantic Philanthropies.”3
The registered charity for the ICCL is The Irish Trust for Civil Liberties, Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. This charity has also proven to be in receipt of substantial money directly from abroad and is giving a large portion of that money that it receives to The Irish Council for Civil Liberties, recently it seems to be a political lobbying organisation for abortion.4
This charity has received $11,912,689 from Atlantic Philanthropies, 5 and yet the Repeal the 8th Campaigns still argues it is a “grassroots movement.”
Here is a link to some of the media coverage that has exposed this funding. More information on this foreign funding of the Repeal the 8th Campaign is detailed here.
