Nope, they encourage and badger women to follow through with abortions so they can fulfil a target and get a pay bonus.
The Daily Mail recently published an article shedding a very dark shadow on abortion provider Marie Stopes International following a report done by the Care Quality Commission in the UK; their job is to ensure “health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care.”[1]
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) accused Marie Stopes International of paying their staff a bonus if they were able to get women to go through with the abortion procedure. “The report said women who had decided not to have an abortion – and were less than five and a half weeks pregnant – ‘were being called and offered a later appointment’. The CQC later confirmed that it believed this to be a ‘generic policy’ across all Marie Stopes clinics.”[2] There are 70 Marie Stopes abortion clinics in the UK.
Women were actually being badgered into going through with abortions they said they did not want to have, because the Marie Stopes “staff felt ‘encouraged’ to ensure women went through with abortions because it was ‘linked to their performance bonus.’”[3]

The CQC inspectors interviewed the staff at these abortion clinics and the staff reported that ‘the clinic was like a ‘cattle market’ and described a ‘very target-driven culture’, not only that but, “[p]arents, partners or friends of women thinking about having an abortion were ‘seen as an inconvenience’ and ‘their presence strongly discouraged’, the report said.”[4]
Marie Stopes claims to look after women’s rights, but this is clearly not the truth, because if this abortion provider was, they would respect the woman’s right not have an abortion. In moments of difficulty and immense pressure, pregnant women are being taken advantage of, encouraged to be alone and are not being given non-directional counselling.[5] It seems greed and the chance to get ahead comes before the woman’s right to choose in the UK.
Here is a link to stories by young women who felt pressured by the Marie Stopes abortion clinic staff to continue with their abortions after the mothers said they did not want to proceed.
It may seem unbelievable that Marie Stopes International, the abortion provider thousands of women turn to yearly, would force women to proceed with abortions, but misconduct has been seen at their abortion clinics before:
”The CQC uncovered major safety flaws across its clinics and ordered the provider to temporarily suspend some terminations. Doctors were found to be signing up to 60 consent forms at once with no knowledge of the women involved.
An investigation by the Mail later exposed how doctors were signing off abortions with a single phone call – again for women they had never met. Under the 1967 Abortion Act, doctors must be able to show they have formed their opinion ‘in good faith’ that the legal grounds for termination have been met.”[6]
At the end of the day, we all must ask ourselves:
“Do we want this to happen in Ireland? Do we want our wives, daughters, partners, friends, family, to be pressured into having an abortion so someone else can get a pay bonus?”
This is what happens if we repeal the 8th Amendement.
